For more than thirty years, Anita was a high school art teacher with a two-year
break to teach Junior Kindergarten. (There was a lot to learn from a four-year-old
making a painting!) Although Anita was always generous with her wide-ranging
and comprehensive skills and talent, she saved encaustic painting for herself as
a retirement reward. In her little studio, she makes her wax mixes, preps her
boards, cuts up paper and plays with fire to make multi-layered encaustic art
pieces.
Anita completed a Bachelor of Arts, honouring in Fine Art with a Printmaking specialty, from the University of Guelph. She completed a Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University in Intermediate/Senior level Art and English and was part of the inaugural Artist In The Community program. She also took several additional qualification courses. As artists do, she continues to take workshops, find mentors, develop community, and scour art-supply shops for cool new art-making stuff.
Originally from Napanee, Ontario, born to Dutch immigrant parents, Anita has lived in Victoria since 2002, and she knits.
