Phyllis Schwartz

Phyllis Schwartz is a multidisciplinary artist who works in photography, ceramics and publishing. She received the Canon Photography Award after graduating from Emily Carr University with a concentration in photography. Her work is in public, corporate, and private collections and has been installed, exhibited, and published locally, nationally, and internationally. Phyllis Schwartz collaborates on publishing, curatorial, and photography projects with Edward Peck. They typically investigate issues, that bring the community together. Schwartz and Peck were most recently artists in residence at Wallace Stegner House in Eastend, Saskatchewan. During their residency, they explored life in a small, Canadian prairie agricultural community set on a vast landscape. Her work investigated the idea of permanence and impermanence in a small-scale agricultural community that confronts the industrialization of prairie farming. Her work was recently published in PhotEd and Aeonian magazines. Schwartz is currently a member of Agora’s Experimental Photography Mentorship, an international collective that exhibited its project at the 2023 Experimental Photography Festival in Barcelona.
