Diana Smith

Artist Statement

I make non-functional abstract art using primarily clay, encaustic, cold wax, oil, acrylic and various mixed media materials. My aim is for the work to be accessible (in price and concept), thought-provoking and have a relationship with beauty. The subject matter and style is often inspired by the Japanese wabi sabi aesthetic and world view which honours the imperfect, incomplete, humble and the hand-made. The name of my (maybe, one day, website) will be Diana Smith: Unfine Art – for good reason. I also love to think, read, write and talk about art and, if I spent as much time making as thinking about art, I would be super prolific.

Currently I am part of the Metchosin ArtPod Gallery and Studios, displaying work, participating in group shows, offering workshops and giving artist talks from time-to-time.
