Creative collaboration brings together two or more people or entities to create a work of art. Collaboration is more than just one plus one; it aims to find a new and different “third voice”, one that creating in solitude cannot accomplish. There are many famous collaborations throughout history – Andy Warhol & Jean-Michel Basquiat, John Lennon & Paul McCartney, Martha Graham & Isamu Noguchi, Charles & Ray Eames, to name a few. In each case, the collaboration fostered an inspired chemistry that enabled both parties to exceed their individual capabilities.
This open call invites artists to explore the dynamics of creative collaboration. For our exhibition, Collaboration – the Alchemy of Creating, we invite artists to explore and expand their understanding of collaboration. Think of it as joining forces with a visual artist, musician, poet, dancer, designer, architect etc., or perhaps a collaborator from the past who is no longer present, to see where the alchemy will take you.
