The collaboration between Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque was a close, intimate dialogue that produced Cubism, in which side-by-side painting, shared materials and reciprocal exchanges of ideas blurred individual ownership. They pioneered Analytic Cubism by deconstructing objects into geometric shapes viewed from multiple perspectives and later developed Synthetic Cubism, incorporating collage and found materials. Their partnership, which lasted until 1914, was a competitive yet respectful “call-and-response” relationship that resulted in works that were often nearly indistinguishable from one another.
