How do you picture the world around you? How do you co-create your environment? What places feel like home, and what landscapes live only in your imagination? Inspired by her recent Berlinage3 Residency, Phyllis Schwartz and Edward Peck will share collage techniques with participants to craft evocative landscapes from layers of paper, colour, texture, and found images. In this workshop, we will explore how landscapes can reflect mood, memory, and identity.
Using collage, participants will craft evocative landscapes from layers of paper, colour, texture, and found images. The workshop will present techniques for creating landscape collages inspired by the environment, imagined places, and collaboration. Participants can bring photos of meaningful locations or choose from the provided materials.
No prior art experience is necessary
– just curiosity and a willingness to experiment.
Materials Supplied at the Workshop
- Cardstock
- A cache of images from magazines and other found materials
- Scrap paper for gluing
- Table cover
Please bring the following to use at the workshop
- Supports: cardstock, cartridge paper, another layer on a base layer, old book cover, cereal boxes
- Glue: glue sticks (Pritt, strong quality glue); Matt acrylic medium and foam brush
- Squeegee and/or brayer; paper towels or cloths
- Scissors
- Straight edge or metal ruler
- Images: Vogue Magazine (or Vogue quality equivalent), found glue-able items (doilies, stamps, wrappers); internet printout only works on laser quality print; digital prints, but usually very heavy/almost the weight of the support;
