The Avenue Gallery
Derek Kasper is amazed that he has worked with clay for 30 years! Most of that time has been as “an artist with a day job,” but he has taken it up full-time for a little more than four years now and loves the ability to focus on ideas and challenging work. He has focused mainly on more extensive work and textured surfaces. Three main areas of exploration are thrown large stoneware bowls and jars, faceted forms, and highly chattered and thin translucent porcelain bowls.
He is a previous winner of an Award of Excellence at the Sooke Fine Arts Show for a large expanded cubic jar titled “Hope Container.” He was an award winner at the Sidney Fine Arts Show for a piece titled “Mother’s Memory,” in 2018, he won the Best 3D entry in the Art Victoria Now show. Derek has attended numerous sessions at Metchosin International Summer School of the Arts. (MISSA) He is currently represented by the Avenue Gallery on Oak Bay Avenue, where some larger works can be found. See more of his work at NoTwoAlike.ca.
