Throughout my life, there has always been a dog or two. As a child, introverted and somewhat of a loner, I always preferred their company to that of other children. We lived in Africa for six years; my first dog was pulled from a deep burrow beneath the neighbour’s bush. She was a skinny little dachshund mix; it was the 60’s, and she was called Twiggy. We were inseparable.
