The “Ocean Art Walk” project would like to commission an artist to create a project!

Details:

  1. This is an open Call from April 28, closing May 25. Results will be announced June 1st.
  2. The project must completed by July 1st so the creation can be experienced during the Metchosin Ocean Art Walk that will take place on July 1st.
  3. The successful proposal will receive a budget of $700 to create the project.
  4. The ocean walk will begin at the Metchosin Arts and Cultural Centre (MACC) and participants will walk from there along Metchosin Road to Witty Beach Road till they reach  the stair case to Witty’s Beach.
  5. The Metchosin Ocean Art Walk brings together community, art, and ecology to honour the landscape and waters that surround us. This initiative invites engagement with the local community and environment through arts and cultural projects, featuring artist-led and self-guided walks from Metchosin Arts and Cultural Centre to the ocean. Participants will experience the Village of Metchosin, local farms, rainforests, beaches, tide pools, and expansive ocean views at Witty’s Lagoon through creative and immersive art projects
  6. We are seeking an artist proposal for an art project that may include, but is not limited to, performance, installation, storytelling and poetry, dance and movement, mindful forest bathing, and ecological experiences.
  7. The $700 budget must cover all aspects of your Ocean Art Walk art project, including the artist’s honorarium, materials and production costs, cleanup, and a one-paragraph final report with one accompanying documentary image. Please be mindful that your project takes place in a sensitive ecosystem—stay on designated pathways, leave no trace, and pack out all materials upon completion. If needed, project development space can be booked at the Metchosin Arts and Cultural Centre Event Space; please check their website for details.
  8. Your proposal information documented here may be used for promotional purposes, so please ensure that it is publication-ready
